Why you Should be using Social Bookmarking Websites

All webmasters should be utilizing social bookmarking websites and although you may think it’s a waste of time you’re completely wrong. There has been a lot of speculation as to whether or not webmasters should even bother spending time social bookmarking their webpages, and most professional webmasters state that it’s worth doing. The traffic that you get from social bookmarking sites is typically junk traffic that won’t result in any revenue for your website, so basically the traffic is only good for increasing your stats and alexa ranking. The reason you should social bookmark isn’t for the traffic though, it’s for the links that you get and the possible SERP rankings you receive.

If you use Google to search for competition and just for general testing purposes then you’ve probably seen that Propeller and Digg pages have been on the first page results before. The fact is these sites are powerful in the search engines and if you choose a proper title and keywords when submitting your bookmark then you could potentially get a first page Google ranking for a couple minutes of your time. Another reason to submit to social bookmarking sites is due to most of them offering do-follow links. This simply means that the links you get from the do-follow social bookmarking sites will count in your link count and could eventually help out with your SERP rankings.

As you can see now there is still plenty of reasons why you should be using social bookmarking. I don’t recommend becoming active on the websites or anything, I just simply promote the fact that you should spend the ten to fifteen minutes it takes to submit a new webpage into ten of the most popular social bookmarking websites. Generally the ten sites that you choose don’t matter, although you should try to use StumbleUpon, Digg and Propeller. Apart from these three I would recommend submitting to any other social bookmarking websites that offer do-follow links. The more you collect the better it will be for your SERP rankings and over time if you’re consistent you’ll notice a lot of links pointing to your sites.

Having an unlimited resource of free do-follow backlinks is difficult to find, but social bookmarking allows people to do just that. You don’t need to waste time submitting to rubbish websites, but there are many social bookmarking websites that are actually worth submitting too and in most cases have a decent page rank associated with their website.

You don’t necessarily need to submit to social bookmarking sites everyday, but if you do then your links will accumulate much faster then other people. You will still want to have another link building campaign running in the background, but for the fifteen minutes a day it takes to use social bookmarking sites I would expect all of you to do so. Social bookmarking seems to have a bright future and it doesn’t look like there going to be going anywhere soon. If you’re a website owner then you should get on your horses and start submitting your webpages into the many different bookmarking sites.
